Behavior Management Strategies

Effective behavior management is directly related to student achievement. Participants will gain an understanding of behavioral function. Educators will learn strategies to build positive relationships to increase positive behaviors as well as discover techniques to respond to undesirable behaviors and manage noncompliance behaviors. Resources to build consistency, communication, and community will be provided.

Co-Teaching 101

Co-teaching pairs teachers who share responsibilities in planning, instruction, assessment, and student management. When delivered effectively, the service delivery option can increase student achievement. Participants will learn about the various co-teaching approaches, lesson delivery, and ways to make the partnership work for teachers and students.

Developing Successful Partnerships

Successful partnerships with colleagues and families stem from effective collaboration. Effective collaboration is essential in inclusive practice implementation as well as student academic and social-emotional learning. Participants will discuss communication styles, challenges to collaboration, and strategies to positively impact partnerships with general educators, special educators, paraprofessionals, administrators, and families. Resources to implement now will be provided

Differentiation & Adaptations: Reaching More Students

Differentiation is a way of thinking about teaching and learning. It considers how students learn and their preparedness before the lesson. Participants will learn how to plan for differentiation including adaptations to the content, process, product, and learning environment based on student readiness, interests, and learning profile. Resources for implementation will be provided.

Effective Communication for Difficult Conversations

Difficult conversations are often inevitable. Participants will learn about the different communication styles, identify their own communication style, and way to more effectively communicate with families and colleagues. Proactive strategies to diminish difficult conversations will also be reviewed.

Explicit Instruction

Explicit instruction is a systematic, purposeful lesson delivery method that is shown to increase student outcome. Prerequisite skills are assessed and reviewed while multiple practice opportunities are provided to students. Participants will learn how to plan explicit instruction lessons, assess student learning, and analyze current planned lessons.

High Leverage Practices

High Leverage Practices (HLP) in Special Education are essential strategies and practices that all special educators should implement. They are research-based and cross grade and content areas. HLPs are broken into four main domains: assessment, collaboration, instruction, and social/emotional/behavioral practices . Participants will evaluate their own practices as well as learn ways to apply HLPs into everyday practice. This professional development can be provided as an overview, domain-specific, or by individual HLP.

Inclusive Practices Through Accommodations, Modifications, Differentiation, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Participants will learn about making accommodations and modifications in general and special education settings. An understanding of the why behind inclusive school environments and an examination of current beliefs will be discussed. In its extended version, this presentation delves into Differentiation and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as well. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the inclusive culture in their settings and consider current district/school/classroom practices.

MTSS Overview

Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a framework to provide students with services and supports. Participants will learn how to effectively integrate interventions into a school schedule. Essential components will be reviewed as well as evidence-based literacy, math, and SEL interventions. Participants will review written school plans and discuss ways to build systems in their district.

Setting Up Students for Success

This presentation discusses the importance of starting the school year off strong, with routines and procedures being taught, practiced, and modeled. Attendees are giving strategies and ideas to implement in their classrooms, along with resources to take with them. The presentation also touches on having a behavior management and creating a positive safe environment for students to learn in.
